Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound Art Challenge

Through the Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound Art Challenge we hope to foster lifelong curiousity, learning, love, and stewardship of Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound.

Since the inaugural challenge in 2021, we have invited students from K–12 to submit artwork to celebrate World Oceans Day.

The winning artwork from each grade was judged by a panel of artists using the following criteria:

  • Does it fit the theme for that year?
  • Is it relevant to Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound wildlife or landscapes within the watershed?
  • Artistic talent, creativity, and originality.

Check out all the amazing submissions from 2021 and 2022 below. With thanks to all of the incredible young artists who submitted their artwork to help us celebrate awareness and action in Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound!

Theme | Revitalization: collective action for the ocean

The ocean connects, sustains, and supports us all. Yet its health is at a tipping point and so is the well-being of all that depends on it. We need to work together to create a new balance with the ocean that restores its vibrancy and brings it new life.

We encouraged students to be creative and to share what revitalization means to them within Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound’s precious watershed.

Theme | Ocean life

The ocean is a wondrous place that covers 70% of the Earth. It is home to most of earth’s biodiversity, and the plants and animals that live in or near the ocean inspire us with awe.

We encouraged students to be creative and to share their story about what they love most about where they live within Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound’s precious watershed.
