Victory! The District of Squamish council voted 4-3 to deny the Temporary Use Permit for Woodfibre LNG's "floatel". We're grateful to Mayor and Council for listening to the community's concerns and holding Woodfibre LNG accountable when other regulators have failed us.

Dear Mayor and Council, I'd like to sincerely thank you for voting to deny the Temporary Use Permit for Woodfibre LNG's proposed floating work camp. I commend you for standing up to Woodfibre LNG's pressure tactics, and for truly listening to the community that elected you. Woodfibre LNG’s application is missing key reports and critical information needed to properly evaluate whether this work camp is in the best interests of the community and safe for the workers. I request that the District of Squamish continue to hold Woodfibre LNG accountable. The company has a lot more work to do to finalize its plans, complete outstanding assessments, and meaningfully engage with the community to enable council to make an informed decision. Why is this important?

Woodfibre LNG has had nearly 10 years to make a plan to safely house its workers and to secure community support. Instead, Woodfibre LNG has invested in a cheap and temporary solution that fails to leave a legacy for the community.

Where other levels of government have failed us, Squamish Council listened to our concerns and refused to succumb to pressure from industry. They stepped up and held Woodfibre LNG accountable, which took real courage.
